Environmental Storytelling: Join our community of passionate writers

Are you a playwright, scriptwriter, poet, or creative who’s passionate about making a difference? Join us and practice your storytelling.

We truly believe that writing is a powerful tool for change, and we’re excited to see what kind of stories you can come up with. We’re specifically interested in stories that revolve around the environment, climate change, and ecological challenges. Whether it’s a scene from a play, a monologue, or a short story, we want to see your creative take on these important issues.

Imagine using your influence to get people to pay attention to the climate, just like they do to all sorts of pointless content on the internet. Maybe you could show sustainable behaviours in your stories like characters bonding over oat milk coffee or taking a long-distance train instead of flying.

By submitting your work to us, you’ll be contributing to a growing community of people who care about the environment and want to make a difference. So, would you like your stories published on our website? We can’t wait to see what you come up with!

What can I write about?

Let’s sprinkle some inspiration crumbs to fuel your imagination and get your writing flowing.

Write about a time when you first took a stand for the environment, whether it was through a protest, a petition, or a personal action. What motivated you to take this action, and how did it make you feel?

Pick something you use often, like your phone or water bottle. Follow the journey it takes to get to you and think about how it affects the environment. Consider things like how it’s made, how you use it, and what happens when you throw it away.

Tell us about a dish that reminds you of a place or culture. Then, consider the impact that the ingredients in the dish have on the environment. Think about how the food is grown, transported, and what waste is created when making the meal.

Two kids talking. One of them believes that we should all adopt a polar bear because they will be homeless soon. The other believes that rising sea levels are actually beneficial because they allow us to live underwater like sharks and octopuses. (Which is absolutely wicked.) They both genuinely figured out all the positive outcomes of global warming. Write a two-page dialogue.

Do you have an unforgettable memory of a connection you felt with a tree?

You had a bad dream last night. You’re telling your dream to a friend. In your dream you watched the tide come in. The sea level rose and rose. It flooded your daughter’s playground. You needed to leave the house as soon as possible but as it happens in every dream there was something ridiculous stopping you from doing that.

When is the due date?
